Startup validation framework

A practical framework for validating startup ideas.

Move from a rough idea to a scored decision using the same Advise → Test → Decide workflow that powers Valimate. Use it on paper, in a spreadsheet, or let the app do the heavy lifting.

Advise, Test, Decide

Most idea-validation frameworks fail because they mix research with action. This one separates the three jobs so each step has a clear output.

Advise

Start with what you believe and pressure-test it. Map the customer, the problem, the market and the assumptions that must be true.

IdeaCustomerProblemMarketCompetitionAssumptions

Test

Design the cheapest experiment that could change your mind, publish it and put it in front of real people.

Validation StrategyExperimentsEvidence

Decide

Weigh the evidence, score the decision and record why you are proceeding, pivoting or dropping the idea.

The methodology, step by step

You can run this framework with any tool. The important part is doing the steps in order and writing down the answers so they can be challenged.

1

State the idea in one line

If you cannot explain it in a sentence, you do not understand it well enough to test. Write the one-liner every experiment will be built around.

2

Name one specific customer segment

'Small businesses' is too broad. 'Solo SaaS founders in their first year' is something you can find and talk to this week.

3

Describe the problem in their words

Founders guess at pain. Validators quote it. Capture the job they are trying to do and the workaround they use today.

4

Find a defensible market signal

You do not need a TAM slide. You need one credible signal that the market is large enough and moving in your direction.

5

List the assumptions that must be true

Every startup is a bundle of beliefs. Identify the riskiest one — the one that, if wrong, kills the whole idea.

6

Run the cheapest decisive test

A landing page, a waitlist, a short survey or a handful of interviews. Pick the test that could change your mind for the least effort.

7

Collect behaviour, not opinions

'I would buy it' is noise. Sign-ups, replies, time spent and money pre-committed are signal. Record the behaviour.

8

Make the call and write the reason

Proceed, pivot or drop. The score is useful only if the reasoning is written down so you — or an investor — can defend it.

From framework to product

Valimate runs the same workflow for you.

The Valimate workspace guides you through each step, asks the next useful question, builds branded landing pages and surveys, gathers responses and scores the final decision. You still make the call — the app just keeps the evidence organised.

  • Ten-stage validation journey
  • Five AI specialists for research, strategy and evidence
  • Published pages, surveys and waitlists
  • Live analytics and a scored final report

The three possible outcomes

Proceed

Strong signal from real people. Build the next thing.

Pivot

The problem is real but your angle is not. Change one variable and retest.

Drop

No pull, no urgency. Stop early and keep the months you saved.
